Domestic Water Well Drilling Services

Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd has been drilling boreholes for private water supply for over 25 years. Whether the water is required to supply a house, irrigate a garden or even fill a pond or lake a borehole can be drilled to cater for each or all of these requirements. We offer a complete service for the construction of private water supply wells from the initial consultation to final connection of the completed borehole water supply to the house. We also undertake water pump servicing. You do not need planning permission to construct a water well.

Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd undertake each private water well project in a professional manner and client liaison is very important. The costs of drilling a water well vary considerably and will depend on many factors as detailed below, particularly the geographical location of the borehole and the geology of the site.

References for boreholes drilled for domestic/private clients can be supplied upon request.

Drilling of a typical private water supply borehole can include the following:

  • Hydrogeological evaluation - A detailed hydrogeological prognosis report is required to establish the geology of the site this will also help with the design of the borehole and provide information about the groundwater level in the area. These are written by the British Geological Survey or hydrogeological consultants.
  • Water well design - Once we have received the prognosis a detailed borehole quote can be written and following a site visit to meet the client, establish borehole location and to see if access is acceptable, then the borehole construction can begin.
  • Water well drilling - Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd have a fleet of drilling rigs from a small tripod drilling rig to larger rotary drilling rigs. Access into the site, geology of the site and depth of the proposed borehole will dictate the selection of the appropriate drilling method.
  • Test pumping and development - When the borehole has reached the proposed depth a yield test can be undertaken using either a borehole bailer or a submersible pump. This will establish how much water is in the borehole and how fast the water level in the borehole recovers after pumping has ceased.
  • Water Pump installation - When the water level has been confirmed then the borehole pump can be selected and ordered. Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd has extensive experience in the selection and installation of submersible pumps. While the rig is on site the submersible pump is installed in the borehole complete with the pump power cable. The borehole is sealed to protect from potential contamination from the surface with a length of steel casing complete with flange finished within a manhole chamber.
  • Water Supply Connection - Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd can undertake all necessary trenching and digging to lay the water supply pipework and power cable to the appropriate location where the control panel for the pump will be installed with a pressure tank or water storage tank where necessary. The electrical control panel needed to run the borehole pump are bespoke designed and installed to the latest electrical regulations and appropriate certificates of installation are supplied by our electrical contractors. Water filters and an ultraviolet unit can also be installed if required to destroy any bacteria that may be present in the water. The project will be completed with all final connections being undertaken to supply the building or end user with water, including terminating the water supply from the local water authority if necessary.
  • Pump maintenance and servicing - Wardle Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd undertake post construction services including pump maintenance, servicing of the pressure vessel and replacement of filters where necessary.
